Rising From The Fire
Rising From The Fire

Alexandria Forbes is a woman who has walked through fire and chosen, again and again, to rise. Her story is not defined by what tried to break her—but by the extraordinary courage she found within herself to rebuild, reclaim, and rebirth her life.

Born to a single mother of four, Alexandria grew up in a world where children were seen but not heard. Generational trauma shaped her earliest memories: abuse, silence, fear, and the heavy weight of being a child without protection. She carried those wounds into adulthood, eventually being diagnosed with trauma, PTSD, and severe depression—conditions that led her into addiction, instability, and years of feeling unseen.

At 32, homeless with six children, Alexandria made a bold decision: she moved from Rhode Island to Maine, seeking safety and healing. At that time, she was fighting both homelessness and addiction. Even after finding housing, the battle continued. Yet Maine became the place where her life began to change.

In 2004, during a season of partying and struggle, Alexandria heard a voice say, “Follow Me.” That moment became the beginning of her journey toward sobriety and faith. Soon afterward, she met a woman who continued to visit her, encouraged her, and brought her to church. Through that church community, Alexandria began a new journey. She encountered people who recognized something within her and prophetically spoke the calling of pastor over her life.

In 2012, Alexandria was ordained as a pastor by Abundance Life Ministry out of Philadelphia. Her faith became a source of strength, purpose, and transformation. She became sober, learned to function again, and began to breathe. She had found a new way of living.

Returning to New York, Alexandria committed herself to transforming her life. At 47, she reclaimed her health, her mind, and her voice. She wrote a book about her life, believing that releasing her truth would set her free. But when her family denied her story, the rejection pushed her back into isolation. Depression stole years from her. She hid from the world—and from herself.

Everything shifted at 50. Her older brother was diagnosed with cancer and needed her. Facing him meant facing the family she feared. When they saw her—transformed, healthy, and radiant—someone said, “You look like a 14-year-old girl.”

That moment reopened old wounds. Alexandria picked up a drink for the first time in 20 years.

For four years, she battled not only addiction but also the mentality of her past. She begged for help, but people only saw the “strong one”—the woman who always figured everything out. For the first time, she was weak, and no one recognized it.

One day, looking in the mirror, she whispered:

“God, help me love the way You do.”

Even then, she kept drinking, kept running, and kept hurting—until she reached rock bottom. In that darkness, a small voice rose inside her:

“Your trauma led to your addiction. This was not your fault. Reach out for help.”

This time, she listened.

Alexandria entered an inpatient program and learned the truth she had needed her whole life: her trauma had contributed to a mental illness she never knew she carried. What happened to her was not her fault. Her worth was not measured by how much she could endure. Her healing mattered more than being a hero to everyone else.

Today, Alexandria stands in her power. She looks in the mirror and says:

“I am proud of you. You deserve happiness and peace.”

She lives with intention—a routine filled with positive thoughts, joy, prayer, and gratitude. She knows her story is not over. She knows she has purpose. She knows that many others are walking through darkness, searching for the light she has found.

Alexandria refuses to be defined by the stigma of her past. She is writing a new chapter—one filled with grace, strength, faith, and truth. Her daily affirmation guides her forward:

"I am victorious. I am an overcomer. I am love. Today is a day of grace—for me and for everyone who enters my space."
